The curtain wall joint

The picture shows four way junction of the new curtain wall mullions. There are two adapters which serve to accommodate the aluminium window profile into the glass pocket. The vertical adapter has been cut too short.  It allows water infiltration and doesn't provide support to the upper end of vertical gaskets. This corner also attracted my attention because of the unusually large grey silicon spot on the horizontal gasket. When I tried to scratch the sealant cover I have made the discovery: the short gasket has been prolonged with an addition of a small piece, instead of replacing the whole gasket length. This malpractice has been concealed by the sealant cover.  It is significant that no sealant has been applied between the gaskets nor between gasket and aluminium groove to make this connection at least temporarily watertight. The sole purpose of this installation was to deceive me - the only curtain wall inspector on this job.

A designer shall always specify vulcanized gasket corners, which are foolproof.
